Metric Space

Definition

Given a set \(X\) with a metric \(d : X \times X \to \mathbb{R}\), the pair \((X, d)\) is called a metric space.

In cases where the metric is obvious, such as if the Euclidean metric is being used on real coordinate space, the metric space may be identified by \(X\) alone.
